About the Class D Security License
The Class D Security Officer License is the state-required certification to work as an unarmed security officer in Florida. The 40-hour course, regulated by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), covers legal authority, emergency response, patrol techniques, report writing, access control, terrorism awareness, and professional conduct. Once you pass the final exam, you are eligible to apply for your state license and begin working in the security industry.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a U.S. citizen or have legal authorization to work in the United States
- Have no disqualifying criminal history (felony or specific misdemeanor convictions can disqualify you)
- Provide a valid government-issued photo ID (Driver's License, State ID, or Passport)
- Provide your Social Security Number for the FDACS license application
- Submit electronic fingerprints for the state and FBI background check
- Be able to read, write, and understand basic English
- Pass the 40-hour Class D training course and final exam
